Feature a Soloist or Soloists with your band!
Under the Stars - (solo gr.4/band gr.3) This piece was commissioned by the Ridgewood High School Band, Jeffrey Haas director. Under the stars is a theme and variations for ANY band instrument and band. Writing this piece was a unique and fun endeavor as the objective was to allow the director to choose any student as the soloist. Not only that, you can switch players for each variation (or even within each variation) if you would like. You can also choose how many variations you would like to use (there are 4). Mr. Haas features student soloists each year in a concert and was looking for the flexibility to highlight any of the well deserving students in any given year. AURA - For Handpan and Wind Ensemble- (solo gr.4/band gr.3) This piece was written for the Antzoulis brothers, both former members of my wind ensemble at Mountain Lakes High School. Jon Antzoulis creates these amazingly beautiful instruments and is operating as a very successful business manufacturing and selling them. His brother Michael really introduced me to the sound of it and that was it! I had to write something to feature the talent of these amazing people and the instruments they create. Not everyone has a handpan around the band room (although I do!), so this is will also work very well for Steel Pan as well as Marimba. I also made a couple of minor modifications and the solo part sounds really great for any saxophone too! I bet I can make it work for Trumpet or Baritone/Euphonium (Fun Fact: I have played it on trumpet, it is so fun :)
